Not a great year in the Hills for the reds, so much so that we didn’t pick the Shiraz, it sort of melted on the vines. Frankly, a bitch of a year that I have no regrets in seeing the back of, however I was surprised at how well the Cab stood up.
We have had better Cabs, not withstanding we were judged as having the best Cab in the Hills for 2013. A judgment that gives you a slightly warm feeling that you are doing some things better that the rest.
The YS still presents itself as a classic Hills Cab, nice balance after 18 months in some treatment in the great ( & expensive) French oak that we bought for the lost Shiraz. Tannins are sharp and it will require a bit of time to round out, but it does have breeding, and will satisfy those fussy taste buds, albeit at a bargain price.
